Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity

S.H.O.P.

Joe Hemingway

President
I moved to Sandy Hook with my family 25 years ago. It is where my wife Maribeth and I have raised our two daughters, Sarah and Maggie. My roots of community involvement go back to when Sarah started at Sandy Hook School. I was one of the few dads involved with the PTA, and led the charge on fundraising for and installing the school’s new playground.

Mike Porco Jr.

Vice President

Michael Burton

Secretary
I have been a resident of Sandy Hook for the past 27 years. Having owned and operated my own construction and development business, Michael Burton Builders, Inc., since 1983, it was exciting to get involved in two major projects which are helping to revitalize Sandy Hook Center.

Sharon Doherty

Treasurer
My parents moved to Sandy Hook back in 1965. I grew up in Sandy Hook spending many hours in the center and I have seen many changes for the the better. I met my husband Dan in 1997 and we purchased our first home here in Sandy Hook where we started our family. When we were searching for our home we kept coming back to the house we now live in, I guess I just couldn’t bring myself to move away from the quaint town I grew up in.

Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (S.H.O.P.) has been instrumental in supporting the Sandy Hook Village community and business district by implementing ongoing revitalization, marketing, business growth, philanthropy, advocacy and Arts & Culture initiatives since the 80s. The group’s mission is to promote the village as a family friendly, pedestrian-oriented community within Newtown which celebrates Sandy Hook’s unique historic heritage and beautiful natural setting. SHOP Board Members are made up of local Sandy Hook residents, storefront property owners, as well as local business owners

S.H.O.P is always looking to collaborate with other local and national organizations to create initiatives that help grow and revitalize the local community.
